With the traction of the drawing machine, the wire rod or intermediate wire blank deforms through the die hole of the drawing die, so as to reduce the cross-section and change the shape, so as to obtain the steel wire whose size, shape, performance and surface quality meet the requirements. The dies used in steel wire drawing mainly include wire drawing dies, carbide wire guide dies, and rotary dies.
The microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel wire change during the cold drawing process from zinc plating to wire drawing, resulting in work hardening. With the increase of cold deformation degree, the tensile strength, hardness, and elastic limit of steel wire increase, while the elongation and reduction of area decrease. Due to the existence of work hardening, when the deformation degree of galvanized wire drawing reaches a certain value, it is not suitable to continue drawing due to the significant decline of the cold working performance of steel wire. Intermediate heat treatment is needed to restore its workability. Generally, the surface reduction rate of a drawing process is about 70% – 90%. Therefore, the technological process of steel wire production has the characteristics of a reciprocating cycle.
Galvanized wire drawing coating treatment: galvanized wire drawing in the non-smooth surface of the requirements of coating the surface of a layer of metal or alloy, in order to prevent corrosion and improve service life. For example, galvanizing (see steel wire hot galvanizing, steel wire galvanizing), aluminum plating, galvanized aluminum alloy, etc.
In the process of producing coated steel wire from galvanizing to wire drawing, some of them are first plating and then drawing, that is, the plating process is arranged before the drawing of finished products; some are drawing before plating, that is, the steel wire is plated after drawing into finished products. Generally, when the surface of steel wire is required to be bright, dense, and with high strength, galvanizing before the drawing is adopted. However, when the requirements for steel wire surface are not very high and the strength and toughness of finished products are not special, but there are certain requirements for the weight of the coating, the first drawing and then plating is adopted.
Many Our wire rod customers will choose PCD wire drawing dies when drawing low carbon steel. However, although the galvanized wire is made of low carbon steel, most customers choose tungsten carbide wire drawing dies instead of PCD wire drawing dies. They told us that the cost-effectiveness of drawing galvanized wire with TC drawing die is higher, which is quite different from the feedback of drawing copper wire.
